Peter Grubb Hut, February 10 - 12, 2017

Embarked on the skin to the hut after several days of weather - rain followed by snow. The weather broke the morning we departed for the hut. The skin in was through fresh powder, the trees were weighed down with over a foot of snow. There was a dramatic pink and gray sunset with storm clouds lingering in the distance. Clouds hovered over Castle Peak. The full moon rose about half way to the hut, coming up over the ridge of Castle Peak creating shadows of the snowy trees against the fresh snow. The hut almost eluded us, only the top eve of the second floor showing, and thankfully exposing the second floor door.

Our full day of skiing was near perfect conditions, very little wind and dramatic gray clouds resting firmly atop the ridge between Castle Peak and Basin Peak. We got beautiful fresh snow through the trees and amazing sunlight playing over the landscape!

Bradley Hut, March 17 - 19, 2016

Map detailing a backcountry ski trip to Bradley Hut. The tour we did on day 1 is in red, the tour we did on day 2 is in purple. A lot of elevation, a lot of sun and a lot of excellent skiing!

Mount Whitney Summit, September 20, 2013

Reached the summit of Mount Whitney at 14,496' on September 20, 2013.

Mount Whitney in the Sierra Nevada Range is the highest elevation in the contiguous United States. Scrambling along the Mountaineer's Route, our crew persevered through frigid temperatures, gale force winds, and occasional flurries in order to reach the summit at 14,496 feet on September 20th, 2013. Enjoy!
